Returns & Exchanges
We want you to love what you buy. If something is not right, we will help make it right.
Most merchandise may be returned within 60 days to any Cardinal Home Center store for a full refund, subject to the conditions and exclusions listed below.
Cardinal Home Center may decline returns for items without a manufacturer defect that show customer-caused damage, patterns of fraud, or abuse.
Proof of Purchase
- Items returned with a receipt
- Email confirmation or verified account history is also accepted
No receipt? In many cases, we can offer store credit for the lowest selling price in the last 30 days with manager approval. A name and phone number may be requested. All no-receipt returns are subject to manager approval and system verification.
How to Return Items
- Purchases must be returned to the same store location where they were purchased.
Too big to return to the store, or have questions? Call 800-844-9234 for options. - Online orders: Fill out the online return form.
How Refunds Are Issued
- Refunds are issued to the original form of payment
- Checks will be refunded once the original payment has been cleared at the bank
- Charge accounts receive a credit to the account
- Cash refunds over $100 may be issued by check or store credit
- Most refunds are completed within 1 to 3 business days after approval
- All returns are subject to inspection before approval
Returnable Items
Items must be new, unused, and resalable, with original packaging, all parts, and manuals included.
Lumber and Building Materials
- Lumber must be clean, uncut, and undamaged
Building materials (including nails/fasteners, drywall, plywood, siding, roofing, etc.) Must be unopened (when applicable), uncut, unmodified, and undamaged
Bagged Lawn, Garden, and Masonry
- Unopened bags only
- Applies to concrete, soil, mulch, fertilizer, seed, ice melt, and pesticides
Paint
- Factory-sealed, non-tinted paint is returnable within the normal return window
Power Tools
- Corded and cordless power tools are returnable if unused and in original packaging
- Milwaukee: Unopened, unused Milwaukee tools may be returned within 60 days with proof of purchase, and after that Milwaukee warranty/service applies
- Makita: Unopened, unused Makita tools may be returned within 60 days with proof of purchase; Makita tools also include a 30-day satisfaction guarantee (accessories and wear items excluded)
- Festool: Unopened, unused Festool tools may be returned within 60 days with proof of purchase; Festool also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee when registered per Festool’s process
- Bostitch: Unopened, unused Bostitch tools may be returned within 60 days with proof of purchase; Bostitch also includes a 90-day money-back guarantee with receipt
- STIHL: STIHL 7-Day Satisfaction Guarantee: Applies to select STIHL serial-numbered machines - return within 7 consecutive days with receipt, complete unit, and no abuse; excludes TS/TSA cut-off machines, GS concrete cutters, SG/SGA/SR sprayers, RB/RE pressure washers, and robotic lawn mowers
Equipment
- Handheld power equipment (blowers, chainsaws, trimmers): returnable only if unused, and in original packaging
- Mid-size equipment (push mowers, generators, pressure washers, tillers): unopened and unused only
- Equipment parts: returnable within 30 days if unused and in original packaging
Plumbing and Electrical
- Unused and uninstalled items only
HVAC and Heaters
- Heaters, dehumidifiers, and HVAC products must be unopened and in original sealed packaging
Non-Returnable Items
Once an item is installed or used, it is considered non-returnable unless defective. Manufacturer warranties apply to defective items once installed, used, or operated.
Paint
- Tinted paints, stains, primers, and samples
- Peel & Stick color swatches and color cards
- Paint that has been frozen (or shows signs of freezing)
Equipment
- Handheld power equipment that has been used or put into service. Defects are handled through the manufacturer's warranty/service process.)
- Large equipment (tractors, UTVs, riding mowers from TYM, Landmaster, Woods, Dirt Dog) once assembled or used (manufacturer warranty applies)
Plumbing and Electrical
- Water heaters, once installed
- Electrical components and light bulbs, if installed or packaging is opened
HVAC and Heaters
- Installed or used units (manufacturer's warranty applies)
Cut-to-Order and Customized Items
- Pipe, rope, wire, chain, tubing, and glass
- Re-keyed locks, screen, and other custom or modified items
Special Orders
- Custom and non-stock special orders are generally non-returnable
- If we made an error on the item or size, we would make it right
- Special-order returns, when vendor-approved, must be requested within 30 days of delivery
- Approved special-order returns may include a restocking fee up to 25%
Large or Bulk Returns
- Subject to review and approval
- Transportation, handling, and restocking costs may apply to approved large or bulk returns
Clearance
- Clearance, bargain, and yard sale items are final sale
Chemicals, Fuels, and Propane
- For safety, no returns once a chemical, fuel, or propane cylinder is opened or filled
Delivery and Service
- Delivery and service charges are non-refundable
- If you ask us to pick up a return from a job site, a delivery fee may apply
Damaged, Missing, or Defective Items
We are here to help. Inspect your order immediately upon delivery or pickup. Please notify us of any damage or missing items within 3 business days.
Defective products are typically exchanged for the same item. If an exchange is not available, a refund may be offered after inspection.
Cardinal Home Center reserves the right to make final determinations on return eligibility.
